On Tuesday and Wednesday, we camped at Cane Creek State Park. We camped in the wilderness campsites and we’re the only people there. They are called the wilderness sites because you have to park you car and then walk a good 30 feet to get to the campsite. There is no water or electric hookup and the nearest bathrooms are about 300 yards away.
After we set up our roomy 4 person tent, we set our cooler (with all our food in it), on the picnic table. All our food, except a small Tupperware container of brownies that was to be our dessert after lunch. This container would not fit in the cooler. We left our campsite and went for a little hike. We came back a few minutes later and the Tupperware container was not to be found. Wendy asked if I or the kids had taken it. We assured her that we had not. We wondered who could have stolen them.
On another short hike we saw two large dogs running free, we began to wonder if they had taken them. The mystery was solved an hour later when we went for a bike ride on a nearby trail. After a few minutes on the trail, we saw the open (and empty) Tupperware container with the half-chewed lid next to it. Apparently, the dogs stole the container, took it far into the wood where they would not be seen and then proceeded to chew the lid off and eat the contents there of. They must have gotten sick from eating all that chocolate because we did not see them for the rest of the day!
Except for missing those brownies, we had a great time of riding on all the trails, chasing a flock of black vultures, playing on the playgrounds, having a egg treasure hunt and exploring the lake.
That evening, we had a hot dog roast along with some friends from JAARS.
Afterwards, David took some excellent pictures of the sunset.
We then played several rounds of flashlight tag and got into bed for a uneventful if not restful sleep.
In the morning, David built a fire and cooked bacon and scrambled eggs over the open fire. We packed up the camp and went to another section of the park where they had a climbing wall that David & Elizabeth climbed all over.
It was a great camping trip!
